What you're looking at
Throttle Addiction sells chopper parts and apparel, and once a round it builds a motorcycle and gives it away. TA16 is the sixteenth. The prize is a custom 2005 Harley-Davidson Dyna, and the official rules' description — "a custom 2005 Harley Davidson Dyna" — is, frankly, the entire published spec sheet. There's no build post, no parts list, no odometer reading, no sub-model. What the photos show is a chopper in the shop's own idiom: stretched and stripped, assembled rather than bolted together out of a catalogue.
The model year still tells you something concrete. Every 2005 Dyna left Milwaukee with the 1450cc Twin Cam 88 — the rubber-mounted version, not the counterbalanced 88B that went into Softails — behind it a five-speed and belt final drive. The six-speed Cruise Drive didn't arrive until 2006, and fuel injection was still optional that year, so a 2005 could be carbureted or EFI. How much of that survived the build is something Throttle Addiction hasn't said, and it's the first question worth asking them.
Why a Dyna is the interesting choice
Most shop-built choppers start as a Sportster or a bare aftermarket rigid, because both are cheap and neither punishes you for cutting it up. Starting from a Dyna is a more expensive decision that buys you a better motorcycle. You keep a proper big twin, a frame that was engineered around it, and — the detail that separates a rideable chopper from a parking-lot chopper — a rubber-mounted engine. A Twin Cam hard-mounted in a rigid will find every filling in your head at 70 mph. This one shouldn't.
The other thing in the shop's favour is receipts. The winners gallery names people, not initials and a stock photo: Matthew Esguerra in Renton, Kevin Chapell in Jonesboro, Sebastian Sartorius in Ventura, Devin Madonna in Myerstown, on back through fifteen rounds, with Greg K. of Renton, Washington taking the TA15 chopper. Fifteen bikes actually handed over is a longer record than most giveaways can point at.
Be realistic about what a twenty-year-old Twin Cam needs regardless of who built it. Budget a full going-over — fluids, tires, brake lines, and a hard look at the charging system, which is the platform's traditional weak spot — and treat the first season as maintenance rather than pure riding.
The fine print worth knowing
Who can enter is written two different ways. The short rules printed under the giveaway, and repeated on the landing page, say the sweepstakes is "Open to legal residents of the USA (Except Alaska and Hawaii) the District of Columbia and Canada," with a "Skill-testing question required if a Canadian resident is selected as potential winner." The long-form ELIGIBILITY section of the same official rules is narrower: "The Sweepstakes is open to legal residents of the USA (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) who are at least eighteen (18) years of age or the age of majority, whichever is older, in their respective state of residence at the time of entry." A skill-testing question exists because Canadian law requires one, so its presence points to Canada being meant to be in — but the two passages don't say the same thing. If you're north of the border, settle that with the shop before you spend a dollar.
The bike comes as-is, and the tax bill comes with it. The rules state that "Prize vehicles will be awarded 'AS IS' without warranty," and the winner carries registration and licensing plus emissions and safety compliance in their own state. The winner is "responsible for all local, state, and federal taxes associated with the receipt of their Prize," and "an IRS Form 1099 will be filed in the name of the Winner" — $4,999 added to taxable income, which at a 22% marginal bracket is roughly $1,100 due in April. There is no cash alternative anywhere in the rules.
Substitution. "Substitution, assignment or transfer of the Prize is not permitted, except by Sponsor, who reserves the right to substitute the Prize (or Prize component) with another of equal or greater value." Boilerplate, but worth a line when one specific bike is the whole pitch.
Entries, and the free route. The base rate is "one (1) entry into the Sweepstakes for every one (1) whole dollar spent," calculated pre-tax, excluding shipping, after discounts. On top of that the rules reserve the right to run promotions: "Throughout the Sweepstakes Period the Sponsor may announce at the website or via email entry multipliers for various items." A 10X multiplier is live on the giveaway page as it stands — a $32.99 shirt shows 329 entries, a $9.99 koozie shows 99, a $100 gift card shows 1,000. The free route is a hand-printed 3x5 card mailed to the sweepstakes PO box, and each mail-in entry is worth ten entries. The arithmetic is worth doing before you decide how to play it: one free card equals $10 of spending at the base rate, but only about $1 of spending while a 10X promo is running.
Dates. Entry opened September 10, 2026 and closes at "11:59 PM PST on 10/26/2026." Mailed entries must be postmarked by October 26, 2026 and received by October 31, 2026 — a five-day buffer so the cards are physically in the drum for the drawing, which the rules set "on or about November 1, 2026."
Who's running it, and where else entries are sold. The sponsor is Throttle Addiction, LLC of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; the administrator is American Sweepstakes & Promotion Co. of Rochester, New York — a named third party rather than the shop judging its own drawing. The rules also name Chop Cult LLC as the "Partner" and extend the same entry-multiplier terms to the Partner's store, so purchases made at Chop Cult feed this same drawing for this same bike. Disputes are individual only: the rules bar class actions and set venue in Wisconsin.

Why It's Special
Dyna-based choppers are the less-traveled route. Most shop builds of this kind start from a Sportster or a bare aftermarket rigid, because they're cheaper to buy and easier to cut. A 2005 Dyna donor keeps the 1450cc Twin Cam 88, the five-speed, and — the part that actually matters on a long ride — the rubber-mounted engine, so the finished bike behaves like something you ride home rather than something you trailer to a show. It's also a genuine one-off: Throttle Addiction builds a single machine per round, and the winners gallery running back to TA1 shows a different bike every time — a purple Dyna, a black-and-yellow Sportster chopper, an Evo big twin, an orange-flamed tank.
Our value estimate
$4,999
Throttle Addiction states an Approximate Retail Value of $4,999 in the TA16 official rules and repeats it on the giveaway page as the "Maximum value of Grand Prize." That's the figure carried here, and it's also the number that lands on the winner's IRS Form 1099. Comparable market data brackets it rather than contradicts it: current retail listings for 2005 Dynas run roughly $4,700 to $8,000 with an average around $6,600, and Hagerty's FXD Dyna Super Glide 'good condition' band sat near $4,700–$6,200 in mid-2026. Two things keep the estimate at the operator's number instead of above it. First, the odometer and the Dyna sub-model are both unpublished, and mileage is the single biggest lever on a twenty-year-old big twin — a 12,000-mile bike and an 80,000-mile bike are thousands of dollars apart, so there's no honest way to push the figure up. Second, $4,999 sits one dollar under the $5,000 threshold at which New York and Florida require a sweepstakes sponsor to register the promotion and post a surety bond for the full prize value, so ARVs in this class are commonly set at that ceiling rather than appraised upward. Read $4,999 as a floor with the shop's own parts and labour stacked on top, not as a valuation of the finished build.
Editorial estimate based on recent comparable sales — not an appraisal.
