The build

Plenty of riders were waiting for Yamaha's R9 in 2025, and the reason was simple. It finally put the 890cc CP3 triple, the engine that made the MT-09 a hooligan favorite, into a real supersport chassis. Stock, you get a light aluminum frame, a fully adjustable KYB fork, Brembo Stylema front calipers, built-in winglets and a six-axis IMU running the rider aids. It launched at $12,499.

NBT Clothing's prize bike goes well past stock. The engine gets the full breathing treatment: a full Toce exhaust system, a DNA stage-two airbox and a V Cycle Nut flash tune to tie them together. The rest of the changes are for the rider: Woodcraft rearsets, a Puig windscreen, TST Industries lighting and parts, and a Sport Bike Assassin tail light and front sprocket cover. The official rules put the odometer at about 1,000 miles, and the winner also gets a $2,000 check.

Why it matters

Intake, full exhaust and a flash is the combination that usually does the most for a CP3, and rearsets are a sign of a bike set up to be ridden hard, not parked. With about a thousand miles on it, this is a nearly new first-year R9 with a few thousand dollars of parts already fitted. The trade-off is that a flashed ECU and an aftermarket intake can make factory warranty claims on related parts harder, and the rules hand the bike over with no warranty in any case.

The operator isn't new at this. NBT is a riding-apparel brand in Delray Beach, run by Nicky Boys Toyz LLC, and this is its sixth bike giveaway. The five earlier winners are named on its site: a 1987 Sportster 1100 in 2022, then an MT-09, an Indian FTR 1200S, a Sportster 883, and a one-off 2025 Buell Hammerhead 1190 last summer.

The fine print worth knowing

The free route is limited to one per person. The mail-in entry is real and stays open until the paid entries close, but it has a cap: "Only ONE mail in entry per person." That one request earns entries equal to the average number awarded for a purchase on the site. Buyers get one entry per dollar with no limit, so a $5 can cooler is 5 entries and a $279 hoodie is 279. A mail-in entry is worth whatever the average order comes to, and the rules don't publish that number. Mail-in entries must be handwritten, postmarked by October 31, 2026 and received by November 6, 2026. The full address is in the official rules.

Prize terms. The rules value the grand prize at about $20,000, and that includes the $2,000 check. The R9 comes "as-is" with no warranty. The winner is responsible for insurance, a motorcycle license and registration, and for all taxes and fees on the prize; the rules say a W-9 may be required. The sponsor reserves the right to swap in a different prize of equal or greater value.

Delivery and eligibility. Legal residents of all 50 states and DC who are 18 or older can enter. However, the rules say the bike "will be transported to the winner at an address located within the contiguous United States." A winner in Alaska or Hawaii can still win, but the bike goes to an address in the lower 48.

The drawing. NBT draws the winner itself, on or about November 15, 2026, with no outside administrator. A potential winner who doesn't respond within five days of being contacted is disqualified. Disputes are handled one person at a time under Florida law in Palm Beach County, and entrants give up the right to join a class action.

Why It's Special

A first-year model. The 2025 R9 was Yamaha's first supersport built around the CP3 triple, and it launched at $12,499. It isn't rare in production terms, but this bike carries its own parts list and has about 1,000 miles on it.

Our value estimate

$18,000

This figure is anchored to the operator's number. The official rules put the grand prize at an approximate retail value of $20,000, and that includes the $2,000 check, which leaves $18,000 for the bike. The rules put the odometer at about 1,000 miles. For scale, a stock 2025 R9 launched at $12,499 MSRP. That makes the operator's figure a near-new bike plus the parts list (full Toce exhaust, DNA airbox, V Cycle Nut flash, TST lighting, Woodcraft rearsets, Puig screen, Sport Bike Assassin parts) counted at roughly what those parts cost. The R9 is a young model, and there aren't yet enough recent closed sales of low-mile examples at the major auction houses to average three comps, so this estimate stays pegged to the operator's ARV. Aftermarket parts rarely bring back their full cost at resale, so a private sale of this bike would more likely land below this number than above it. Taxes are owed on the full prize, which the rules value at $20,000.
