What you're looking at

Two identical Heybike Comfort Ranger 3.0 Pro fat-tire folders, awarded one each to two separate winners in the same drawing. PenFed values them at $1,499 apiece.

The Ranger 3.0 Pro is Heybike's flagship, and the spec sheet is unusually loaded for the money: a 750W rear hub motor that peaks at 1,200W and 80 Nm, a 720Wh removable battery, and — the part worth caring about — a torque sensor instead of the cadence sensor most bikes at this price still use. A cadence sensor dumps assist the instant the cranks move. A torque sensor meters power to how hard you're actually pushing. It is the single biggest difference between an e-bike that rides like a bicycle and one that rides like a scooter with pedals.

Underneath: a hydroformed 6061 aluminum step-thru frame that folds, a 65 mm hydraulic fork up front, an adjustable air shock out back, 20 x 4-inch Kenda fat tires, a Shimano Altus 8-speed, and hydraulic discs on 180 mm rotors. Fenders, a rear rack, LED lighting with turn signals, a TFT display and NFC unlock are standard. Heybike claims 28 mph and up to 90 miles of range.

Why it matters

Full suspension on a folding fat-tire bike is genuinely uncommon at $1,499. The category is usually a choice: you get the fat tires and a rigid rear end, or you get suspension on a frame that doesn't fold. Putting an air shock and a hydraulic fork on a bike that collapses into a trunk in under ten seconds is the whole pitch, and it's aimed squarely at riders who want range and comfort over sportiness — which, for a credit union whose membership skews military and whose entrants include people stationed overseas, is a sensible read of the audience.

Be realistic about what that costs you. The bike weighs roughly 75 pounds. "Folding" means it fits in a hatchback, not that you're carrying it up two flights. The 720Wh pack takes six to eight hours to refill from empty, so this is a charge-overnight bike. And that 90-mile range figure is a lowest-assist, flat-ground, light-rider number — real mixed riding on 4-inch tires will land far short of it. None of that is a knock on the bike; it's just the difference between the box copy and a Tuesday commute.

One more practical item: 28 mph puts this in Class 3 territory. A lot of multi-use paths, state parks and municipalities restrict Class 3 e-bikes or bar them outright. Check your local rules before you build a commute around it.

The fine print worth knowing

The prize arrives as-is, and there is no cash option. The official rules state that winners receive the prize "on an 'AS-IS' basis without warranty" beyond the manufacturer's own coverage, and that there is "No prize transfer. No prize substitution except by Sponsor due to prize unavailability." In plain terms: you cannot take $1,499 instead of the bike, you cannot hand the win to someone else, and the only party who can swap the prize is PenFed, and only if the bike can't be sourced.

Three places can't play. The rules make the sweepstakes "void in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico" — an exclusion the entry page never repeats. Entry is otherwise open to residents of the 48 contiguous states and D.C. who are 18 or older, explicitly including permanent legal residents of that area currently living on an overseas U.S. military installation.

The winner covers the taxes. The rules assign each winner responsibility for "any title, applicable taxes, license, registration, insurance, required safety equipment, and other fees associated with their Prize Vehicle." That clause is plainly vehicle-sweepstakes boilerplate — almost none of it applies to an e-bike, since most states don't title or register them — but the tax line does. A $1,499 prize sits above the $600 mark at which sponsors ordinarily report prize winnings as income, so budget for a tax bill on the value, not a bill for the bike.

Entry mechanics. This one is free end to end: no purchase, no PenFed membership, and no credit card application. You fill in the online form at the sweepstakes page and that's the entry. It is capped at one entry per person and email address, so there is no bonus-entry ladder and no way to improve your odds — every eligible entry has an equal chance, and the odds come down to how many people enter. Entries close at 11:59:59 PM ET on October 1, 2026, with the two winners drawn on or about October 8. A winner list is available by mailing a self-addressed, stamped envelope, to be received by December 31, 2026, to The PenFed Ultimate Ride Giveaway Winner List, PMI Station, PO Box 172, Newtown, CT 06470-0172.

Why It's Special

Not a rare bike — this is Heybike's current flagship folder, mass-produced and in stock at retail. What's uncommon is the configuration: genuine full suspension (65mm hydraulic fork plus an adjustable rear air shock) on a folding 20x4 fat-tire frame, with a torque sensor rather than the cadence sensor most bikes near this price still ship. 'Comfort Ranger 3.0 Pro' is Heybike's own name for this version of the Ranger 3.0 Pro.

Our value estimate

$1,499

PenFed's official rules put the approximate retail value at $1,499 for each of the two e-bikes, and that number holds up. This is a current-production consumer e-bike rather than a used vehicle, so the relevant comps are recent transaction prices, not auction results: Heybike's own storefront has sold the Ranger 3.0 Pro at $1,499 through 2026 (March 2026 with a pannier bag included), with periodic flash sales dropping it to $1,399 in May and again in June 2026. Heybike also advertises a higher list figure — $1,999, and $2,078 for one bundle — that the bike has essentially never transacted at, so anchoring to the $1,499 ARV rather than that MSRP is the honest read. No mileage adjustment applies here; the prize is a new bike supplied with manufacturer warranty, so there is no odometer to comp against. Figure a real-world replacement cost of $1,399–$1,499 depending on whether you catch a promotion. Two bikes are awarded to two separate winners, so the figure above is what one winner receives; the combined prize pool across both winners is $2,998.
