What you're looking at

Flow One's own description: "The Flow One Resto Mod '93 CR500 2-stroke. A full frame off restoration complete with all the right upgrades, making this the perfect OEM+ build we can all appreciate." The official rules list the prize as "1993 Honda CR500", with "Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”): $4,900".

The bike's story starts rough: "This 1993 Honda CR500 was found neglected and beat up on Facebook Marketplace in Rhode Island, then hauled back to a humble home garage in Connecticut." The engine "looked like it came out of the bottom of the ocean. There were metal shavings in the oil, a clutch cover patched with JB Weld, and a cracked case. The cases were blasted, welded, and Cerakoted and the cylinder was bored to fit a fresh Wiseco piston kit."

The build list reads like a period-correct wish list with modern internals. On the engine side there's a "Phathead Racing Cylinder Head with Compression Release (66.4cc)", a "Cylinder Bored by X-Pro (91mm)", a "Crankshaft Rebuilt by X-Pro with ProX Connecting Rod", "VForce 3 Reeds", a "Pro X Billet Clutch Kit" and an "FMF Gnarly Expansion Chamber" with an "FMF Powercore 2 Silencer". The chassis gets a "Frame Powder-Coated by Legacy Designs (Honda Championship White)", "SMPro Silver Rims" on "Maxxis Maxxcross SI Tires", a "Race Tech Shock Spring (5.6 kg/mm)" and "Polished, Rebuilt, and Clear Coated Forks, Shock Absorber, Linkage, and Swingarm (Cerakote MC5100)". It's dressed in "UFO OEM-Replica Plastics" and "Decal Works OEM-Replica Graphics". Some parts didn't exist anymore: "The front wheel hub cover, throttle body cover, swingarm caps, and brake line guides were designed from scratch and 3D printed."

Why it matters

Nobody builds open-class two-strokes anymore, and the CR500 is the one most riders picture when they think of the class. This build is also a proof of concept for a small brand. "All of it was done at home with a handheld sandblaster, a toaster oven, a bench buffer, and Pryme MX wheels, proving you don't need a fancy shop to bring something like this back." Flow One says "Every step was filmed on YouTube, from the day it came off the trailer to the first time it fired." The giveaway page lists thirteen build episodes, from the teardown to the reveal, so few prize bikes come with a more complete record of the work.

An honest read for enthusiasts: this is a resto-mod, not a factory-correct restoration. The build story says the front end "was off an older 1990 model", the cases were welded, and the bike runs a big-bore top end. The page lists no hours since the rebuild. None of that is a knock on the work, but it shapes what the bike is: a rider's CR500 that's been gone through, not a museum piece.

The fine print worth knowing

One free entry for the whole run. The free route is a hand-written postcard, and it is capped. Free entrants "may obtain one (1) entry total during the Sweepstakes", while "Entrants may purchase multiple entries." The sweepstakes runs from December 2, 2025 to October 24, 2026, so a mail-in entrant holds one entry for that whole period no matter how many entries others buy. The rules also state: "Mail the postcard to: Flow One LLC Honda CR500 Giveaway, P.O. Box 118, East Glastonbury, CT 06025." and "Mail-in entries must be postmarked by October 22, 2026 and received by October 25, 2026."

Who can enter. The giveaway page says "Giveaway is eligible in the USA only." The official rules are narrower: "Open only to legal residents of the 48 contiguous United States who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry. Void in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and where prohibited."

How paid entries work. "Every $25 spent on merchandise will get you one (1) entry towards the giveaway. Direct Entries can also be purchased." The rules add: "Entry count is based on pre-tax, pre-discount subtotal." "Entry purchases are non-refundable." and "Returned/refunded items void associated entries." "Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries."

What arrives, and what it costs you. "The Prize is awarded AS-IS, without warranty of any kind, express or implied." The winner is responsible for "Registration, title, taxes, and fees", "Transportation or pickup of the motorcycle", "Insurance" and "Any other expenses not specified". "Prize may be picked up in Connecticut or delivered/shipped at Sponsor’s discretion." There is no guaranteed cash option: "No substitutions or cash alternative except at Sponsor’s sole discretion." The bike is also off-road only: "The Prize is an off-road motorcycle intended for closed-course or off-road use only and is not designed or intended for operation on public roads."

Taxes and deadlines on the winner. "A Form 1099-MISC will be issued for the ARV of $4,900", so the winner reports $4,900 of income. "Failure to complete tax documents within 5 days of being notified will result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner." The sponsor may also pick an alternate if the "Winner does not respond within 72 hours,".

The drawing and disputes. "A random drawing will be conducted by a member of Flow One LLC on or about October 25, 2026 from all eligible entries received." The sponsor runs its own drawing, and the rules name no third-party administrator. To get the result, the rules say to "send a self-addressed stamped envelope by November 30, 2026" to the same P.O. Box. Disputes go "exclusively before a court located in the State of Connecticut having jurisdiction", "without resort to any form of class action", and "Entrant’s sole remedy for any claim shall be a monetary award limited to actual out-of-pocket costs not to exceed five dollars ($5.00)."

Why It's Special

Honda sold the CR500R in the US from 1984 through 2001, and sorted examples of the open-class two-stroke have become collectible as the big-bore era recedes. This one is a frame-off resto-mod, not a numbers-correct restoration. Flow One calls it "the perfect OEM+ build", and its build story notes that the front end "was off an older 1990 model" and that the engine had "a cracked case" that was "blasted, welded, and Cerakoted". Several small parts were designed by Flow One and 3D printed.

Our value estimate

$4,900

Anchored to the sponsor's own figure in the official rules: "Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”): $4,900". That is also the figure the 1099-MISC is issued at. The build list is extensive, and its parts and outside machine work (an X-Pro bore and crank rebuild, a Phathead head, a full FMF exhaust, SMPro rims, a Race Tech spring and Cerakote throughout) plausibly add up to a lot of money on their own. A restored 1988 Honda CR500 sold for $8,507 including fees through a post-auction offer at Iconic Motorbike Auctions on June 30, 2023, which shows a well-done example can clear the ARV. Two things pull the other way. Collectors pay most for originality, and this is a home-garage resto-mod with a 1990 front end and a welded case. The page also lists no hours since the rebuild. Fewer than three recent comparable sales could be confirmed. With the comps thin and those condition questions open, we hold to the sponsor's $4,900 rather than a higher number. This is an editorial estimate, not an appraisal.
